Parenting is Hard!
Sometimes it appears like everyone else knows what they are doing, and parenting comes naturally. We guarantee that this is not the case! It takes courage to reach out for help about parenting, and if parenting came easily in one stage, it may not in the next.
Transitional changes that can be challenging:
Adding a child, or additional children, to your family
Toddlerhood (need I say more?)
Entering school, or going from elementary to middle school, or middle school to high school
Adolescence
Launching & becoming empty nesters
Blending families
Here are just a handful of the reasons people may come in to work with us:
Behavioral challenges (tantrums, physical aggression, lying)
Emotional changes (depression, anxiety, OCD, situational stressors)
Relationship difficulties (attachment, parent/child, siblings, friends, significant others)
Self-esteem
Grief and loss
How We Approach Parenting Support
Each of our providers uses different ways to help offer support and strategy for parents, depending on the concerns and age of your child. We believe that it is important to have information from parents, even if we are working individually with a child. It is not possible to have long-term change just working one-one with your child. If your child is younger, we want parents to be involved in sessions. If your child is a tween or teen, feedback may be less frequent or more brief. Our goal is to help your whole family feel better!
For additional support, consider Pediatric OT or Parent & Caregiving Consulting services. You can find more information here.
